Federal Credit Union
became the Friendliest Place in Cedar Mill
In 1960, eight people from Electro Scientific Industries
(ESI) each invested $5.00 for a share in the newly
chartered Electro Scientific Industries Federal Credit
Union. This was the start of an employee benefit
for the company located on Science Park Drive.
A volunteer treasurer ran the day to day transactions
and a second volunteer typed up the loan documents. After
the first year, 50% of the ESI employees were members
of the credit union which now had almost $20,000
in assets.
The credit union was able to slowly grow over the
next 15 years. Due to continuous layoffs in
the electronics field, in 1977 the credit union was
officially expanded to allow all employees located
on Science Park Drive the ability to join. To
better reflect the membership, the name was changed
to Sunset Science Park Federal Credit Union.
In 1997, the credit union purchased its current
office building (1100 NW Murray Drive) and installed
an ATM and drive thru for the convenience of its
members.
Today, Sunset serves over 2,100 very happy members
with assets exceeding $35,000,000.
